What are flatshares and houseshares?
A flatshare is simply when two or more people share a flat together. In the typical flatshare people with have their own bedrooms but will share communal areas such as the kitchen, lounge and bathroom (unless you’re lucky enough to have en-suite).
The reason that flatshares are so popular is because they can help reduce monthly outgoings, such as rent , gas and electricity. It can also be a great method of meeting new people and making friends when moving to a new town or city.
Generally, flatshares are more popular in the cities where rent is expensive and accommodation is sought after, such as London, Manchester, Birmingham and Edinburgh. As a result of the global recession, the number of properties with rooms to rent has increased as homeowners look to rent out their spare rooms in order to generate an additional income.
